What does the Dazzling Daffodils Shawl have to do with cancer you ask? Well, it’s an interesting story. I designed the Dazzling Daffodils Shawl a year before it was published. The pattern was complete and ready to go but for various reasons it ended up being set aside.

The Canadian Cancer Society’s Daffodil Campaign

A year later, with spring approaching, I happened to remember the Canadian Cancer Society’s April Daffodil Campaign. I lived for over 40 years in northern Canada and always looked forward to buying bunches of cheerful daffodils in April. My goal was to not only support the Canadian Cancer Society’s Daffodil Campaign but also to enjoy a bit of spring while living in a climate where spring didn’t really exist. I recently relocated to Vancouver Island and can now enjoy daffodils all around me every spring. However, a serious cancer diagnosis in my family made me think about that Daffodil Campaign again. A quick search told me that although the Canadian Cancer Society was no longer selling daffodils, the campaign was still running. It was now online. And so I decided that my daffodil shawl pattern could contribute to this and April was the perfect month to publish it.

Dazzling Daffodils Shawl

The Dazzling Daffodils Shawl pattern is a garter and lace end-to-end shawl. The lace border consists of flower shapes that look quite a bit like daffodils. It is knit in one piece and isn’t difficult to complete. And because the lace border is not very wide the shawl ends up being long and almost scarf-like. It’s easy to wear.

The yarn I designed the shawl with is a beautiful daffodil yellow colour. It’s Hedgehog Fibres Sock Yarn in Butter. One skein is all it takes.

Donating to the Canadian Cancer Society

When the pattern was first published in 2021, I pledged to donate $1 from the sale of each copy of the pattern in the month of April (when it was published) to the Canadian Cancer Society’s Daffodil Campaign. And I was thrilled to be able to make that donation of $114.00!

This year, I made the same pledge. I pledged to once again donate $1 from the sale of each pattern to the Daffodil Campaign. And, thanks to you, I was able to make a donation of $50.00 from Dazzling Daffodil sales in April of 2022. Thanks everyone!!

UPDATE: This year, I’m pleased to say that together we donated $36.00. Thank you to everyone who helped to make this happen!!
