From Summer To Fall is a colourful asymmetrical shawl that celebrates the changing seasons. Its combination of stripes and simple textures creates a beautiful, wearable accessory that will take you from summer to fall.

Construction: Sideways kite-shaped shawl
Yarn: Fingering/Sock – three colours
Approx Yarn Requirements: Colour 1: 295yd (270m), colour 2: 378yd (346m), colour 3: 345yd (315m). Total: 1,018yd (931m)
Needles: US 6 (4.0 mm) circular needle
Finished measurements: Approx 105″ (267cm) long × 35″ (89cm) deep, blocked

A Little About the Design
It’s that time of year when there is a chill in the air but some of us are just not ready to completely let go of summer. I want to layer a big shawl around my shoulders but I still need some summer brightness. From Summer To Fall is just that shawl. With lots of garter stitch, a little bit of eyelet lace, and some bright cheerful stripes, this is the perfect transition piece.
This is a sideways asymmetrical shawl with a central double decrease ‘spine’ and increases at each edge. Choose your three colours and blend some summer into fall.
Two Shawls, Two Very Different Looks
One of my favourite things about revisiting an older design is discovering how different it can look in a new colour palette. My original shawl was bright and cheery and my newer version takes on a softer, more earthy character. The same pattern can create two very different looks. And choosing a colour combination is the best part of this project!
The Original From Summer to Fall
My original From Summer To Fall was knit in three colours of Malabrigo Mechita – Hollyhock, Violin, and Pearl. Mechita is soft and squishy and this vibrant fuchsia brings a cheerful splash of summer colour to the cooler days of autumn.
An Earthy From Summer to Fall
For my second version, I used two colours of Malabrigo Sock – Myths and Ivy. For my third colour I chose Emilia & Philomene Adelina in Brooklyn. The combination of mossy greens and gentle neutrals gives this version a quieter, more autumnal feel.
