Temperatures are dropping and there’s nothing better than pulling out the comfy boots, cozy sweaters, and warm shawls, right? If you’re looking for a fall shawl knitting project to cast on I have a few suggestions for you!

Moody Shawl

Last winter, I knitted two of my warm shawl patterns in new yarns. One of those was the Moody Shawl. My original Moody Shawl was designed in Black Cat Custom Yarn Let’s Get Worsted in Void Talon, Foundry and In The Navy. For my new version I chose Sweetgeorgia‘s Superwash Worsted in Tumbled Stone, Bison, and Cocoa. The skeins didn’t give me quite enough yardage so I didn’t knit the final three rows, making the ribbed edge a little shorter – an easy modification that still looks great!

Halcyon Shawl

The second shawl that I re-knitted was my Halcyon Shawl. The original version was done in the calm and peaceful colours of Dark Aquarius, Coventry, and Fiddlehead of Miss Babs Yummy Two-Ply. For this new version I chose Hedgehog Fibres Skinny Singles in the more monochromatic Urchin, Graphite, and Construct. Although it’s a fingering weight yarn the size of the shawl is huge and allows for lots of wrapping and bundling for warmth. I really love knitting this shawl and I plan to do another one again in the future. It’s an easy, soothing, and relaxing project.

Other Fall Shawls

Other fall shawl patterns that are available in my pattern store include:

Mom’s Shawl is worked in two colours of fingering/sock yarn. The others are all done in DK or sport weight yarns.

Texture & Colour uses three colours and is designed in Plucky Cozy DK. The Plucky Knitter recently offered three-colour yarn kits of pre-selected colours in four different yarn bases for Texture & Colour. The kits are no longer available but you can still mix and match their yarns by checking out the selection on their website.

Free Fall Shawl Patterns

Of course, I also have several free fall shawl patterns to choose from if you’re looking for free patterns. The Truly and Totally Triangular Scarves are all-time LMD favourites and both are done in cozy DK yarns. And, the tassels on my new Dappled Shawl give it a comfy fall feeling too. All three patterns are adjustable for whatever amount of yarn you want to use. You can always make them big and oversized for extra warmth!

So cast on a fall shawl and then wear it with pride and warmth! Happy fall knitting everyone!
