Two variations of this shawl, one in two colours with lace and garter stitch stripes and the other all in lace, make for an interesting walk through this knitting garden. Both versions start at one corner and grow to the far edge where all stitches are bound off. Choose two colours of fingering weight/sock yarn for the larger two-colour shawl or one skein for the smaller all-over lace shawl. Pattern includes separate instructions for the two different versions of this shawl.
Yarn:
Shawl 1 (garter stitch stripes & lace): Black Cat Custom Yarn The Answer To Everything (75% superwash merino wool, 15% cashmere, 10% silk; 420 yd [384 m]/4 oz [113 g]). 1 full skein of Colour 1 (C1) and 1 skein, or approx 150 yd [138 m]/1.5 oz [40 g] of Colour 2 (C2). Shown in In The Navy (C1) and Stainless (C2).
Shawl 2 (all-over lace): Madelinetosh Merino Light (100% merino wool; 420 yd [384 m]). 1 skein. Shown in Coquette Deux.
Needles: US size 6 [4.0 mm] needles or size needed to obtain gauge.
Finished measurements:
Two-colour shawl – approximately 30 inches (76 cm) deep at middle point and 62 inches (158 cm) long across top edge, blocked.
Single-colour shawl – approximately 22 inches (56 cm) deep at middle point and 53 inches (135 cm) long across top edge, blocked.
Skills required: increasing, decreasing, changing colours for stripes, lace knitting, blocking. Stitches used: k, k tbl, p, kfb, k2tog, p2tog, p2tog tbl, SKP, yo.
Pattern includes list of abbreviations, diagram, notes, and the instructions for the lace sections are both charted and written.
