If you’re looking to squeeze in one last winter accessory project before the season ends, or if you’re already planning ahead for gift knitting season, then this is the pattern for you. The Square Basket Cowl is a quick one skein worsted weight cowl that uses knit and purl stitches to create the symmetrical basket weave pattern. The basket weave sections are divided with an easy pattern of squares to add visual interest. Finally, ribbing on each edge finishes it off beautifully.

I used one skein of Malabrigo Rios for this pattern, however any worsted weight yarn will work. The colour shown here is Pearl. You’ll need approximately 210 yards. The cowl is knitted in the round on a US7 circular needle.

The finished cowl is approximately 10 inches (25 cm) tall and 12 inches (30 cm) wide laid flat after blocking. The circumference is approximately 24 inches (61 cm).

You know how much I love a one skein worsted weight cowl and this one is especially quick and easy with only knit and purl stitches. The texture of the pattern stitches plus the squishiness of this beautiful yarn make a soft cozy cowl that you’ll love to wear around your neck all winter. I hope you enjoy knitting yours as much as I enjoyed knitting mine!
