I recently reknit two of my older cowl patterns – the Honeycomb Eyelet Cowl and the Diamond Purl Cowl. My goal was to show the patterns in another yarn and to get some new and updated photos for my pattern listings. But I also ended up improving and revising both patterns. And those new and improved versions are available now!

Why A Pattern Update?

I used a very similar skein of yarn for each as what I originally designed them in and guess what? I couldn’t finish the Diamond Purl Cowl with that amount and the Honeycomb Eyelet Cowl came too close for comfort. There are a few reasons for this problem. First of all, I know I’ve become a looser knitter than I used to be (I must be more relaxed these days). Second, these patterns weren’t test-knit before publishing (I know, I shouldn’t have been in such a hurry to publish them). And finally, it’s a 200 yard worsted weight pattern and that’s a small skein of yarn by worsted standards.

Of course we can always buy a second skein of yarn to finish a pattern but one-skein patterns are really awesome, right? So I really wanted to keep these patterns suitable for 200 yards of yarn. I was able to easily remove a few plain rounds from each cowl without altering the design and so that’s what I did to revise both patterns. I also reformatted them to my new pattern layout. If you previously purchased either of these patterns on Ravelry you’ve already received the update.

Yarn

Both patterns were originally designed in one skein of Red Sock Blue Sock Yarn Superwash Worsted. The Diamond Purl Cowl was done in Olive. This time I used Lichen and Lace Superwash Merino Worsted and I chose Linen.

The Honeycomb Eyelet Cowl was originally designed in Red Sock Blue Sock Superwash Merino in Chestnut. I chose Lichen and Lace Superwash Merino Worsted in Sugar Plum for the new version.

I hope you give these fun little patterns a try. I’d love to see which yarn you choose. Post about your cowls on social media with #diamondpurlcowl or #honeycombeyeletcowl or #leahmichelledesigns.

Happy knitting!
