Living in northern Canada for the majority of my life gave me a front-row seat to the amazing northern lights dancing in the sky at night. This beautiful crescent-shaped shawl, the Dancing Skies Shawl, uses a gorgeous hand-dyed yarn to capture the beauty of the northern lights in knitting. The yarn is Hilori’s Magical Yarnorium Meri Jane which is a fingering weight hand-dyed yarn. Unfortunately though, this yarn is now discontinued. This pattern and the limited edition yarn were created as part of Hilori’s Magical Yarnorium’s Cross Country Canada Road Trip KAL in 2018.
To recreate this effect, look for a variegated yarn with bright pops of colour between longer stretches of a solid colour. Light colours against a dark background (or vice versa) also help to create the effect.
You will work this crescent-shaped shawl from the top down and use only knit, purl, increase, and yarn over stitches. It’s a quick and easy one-skein project!
**These yarn overs use up a lot yarn. If you’re a loose knitter, be sure to have more yarn on hand than the pattern calls for. You don’t want to run out!
