The Eyelet Chain Shawl is an asymmetrical triangular garter stitch shawl with a band of pretty lace along one edge. It is knit all in one piece and one side is longer than the others giving it the asymmetrical shape. It starts with one stitch and increases along the top edge, then binds off along one of the side edges. It’s an easy pattern to follow and the end result is quite lovely and versatile.

Although any amount of yarn may be used, it really is the perfect one-skein project. Choose a pretty skein of sock or fingering weight yarn. Tonal yarns work particularly well with garter stitch and lace. The yarn used here is Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light in Night Bloom.

If you want a larger shawl, go ahead and use more yarn. Knit until you reach your desired size. The asymmetrical shawl is the perfect shape for using any amount of yarn.

An asymmetrical shawl is very wearable, and the off centre shape gives you a variety of ways to style it. You can drape it across your shoulders, tie it in front, or even wear it as a cozy neck scarf.

I hope you enjoy your Eyelet Chain Shawl as much as I enjoy mine!
