I have managed to fit the perfect number of pattern repeats into the leg of this sock that I am working on. Now it’s time to blend the pattern into the heel. It’s taken a couple of attempts to get something that I like. I’m working with a cable pattern and some of the cables will continue to the toe, but some of the cables have to end. Making that happen smoothly is important to me. Here’s what the heel flap will look like.

The gusset has taken a couple of tries as well. Cables are also ending at each side of the sock and I want a clean and simple transition. I will work my gusset decreases right up against the edge of the instep – ‘knit to the last 2 sts, k2tog’, instead of ‘knit to the last 3 sts, k2tog, k1’. I’m not sharing a photo. You’ll have to wait and see how it turned out!

And now it’s time to work on the toe so that soon this pattern can be published. Watch for it!
